Family BBQ

The In Laws were on the Island for a visit. I thought they were here to see me because of my surgery but soon realized that Gwen was the main attraction. So much for all the TLC I was expecting. I was the one giving that out. Sunday morning I made breakfast for Natalie and Peter and the family then when Mamasitta and Pat showed up I made breakfast for them. Good thing I love Mamasitta because she ordered breakfast the way she wanted it and not the way I had made it for everyone else. I asked if she thought she was in a restaurant. I had made fried eggs and bacon with hash browns and toast but Mamasitta wanted a boiled egg about 5 minutes with two pieces of toast one whole wheat and one raisin bread. To make it easy on me Pat said I could boil him 2 eggs instead of frying them. I think they were a bit softer than they wanted them because apparently being closer to sea level makes a difference for boiling times? I had never heard that before and they never complained....much LOL.

We all headed to Aunt Irenes and Uncle Jim where Ben took over the controls of the BBQ so Uncle Jim could attend to other things. If Angie's girls had been there I'm sure Ben would have been too busy to cook but because they were not he did a great job cooking. I did take some pictures but wasn't feeling well as now I have a bad cold so I never got everyone but I got most of the people that were there. Albert was not as he had to work but his grandma bought him supper when he got home.

All in all it was a good weekend and hopefully we will be heading their way in a couple weeks to visit them.

48 hours later

Well its been 2 days since the surgery and I'm feeling pretty good. My stomach feels ok but its sore if I touch the bandage over the incision. I ate for the first time today (other than ice cream and digestive cookies) as Patty and I went out for lunch to our favorite sandwich place. I had soup and a wrap which sat pretty heavy in my stomach but then I had a small dump and then was able to eat some lasagna for supper. The evening after the operation I had some digestive cookies as I felt hungry but like after my last operation it all came right back up. But it sure tasted good going down lol. I have been getting in some walks by going to visit my buddy Donavan who came home and had ice cream with me today. He asks to see my owy when ever I see him to see if its still there. He cant wait to be able to play hockey with me again. Worst part about this is my wife on my back about don't do this or don't do that sheesh like I'd listen anyways LOL. She has help coming tomorrow in my sister in law and my mother in law. I took a shower tonight and we will change the bandages tomorrow. Its going to be a busy day as I'm going to watch the Sopranos all day!! This weekend we are having a BBQ at Aunty's and Uncle Jim's place. Will post pictures of my wound when we unwrap it and get a good look see!!

Eve of operation

Well its going on 11:30 on the eve of my operation. I just finished a rollo McFlurry and will need to get a drink and brush my teeth as I'm not allowed anything after midnight. I have to be at the hospital at 11:20 and knowing Patty we will be early. Aunty Irene called to check on me and said she would be checking to make sure that Patty takes very good care of me. She told me that if Patty didn't then she would allow me to divorce Patty. I've informed Patty of this on more than one occasion to make sure she is aware. When I mentioned tonight that I will be needing ice cream Patty said that it was only for tonsils and such. I told her not to worry about it I will tell Aunty Irene I need ice cream and she will take care of it for me. Patty then had a change of heart and said that she would love to get me some ice cream. All of my in laws are coming to the island this week to see me and make sure I'm doing ok. My favorite sister in law called and asked me if I would mind them coming to visit and I said I'd love it. Mama and Papasitta and Natalie and Peter will all be coming by just for me.

Ok enough of that any one see the Canucks game tonight? Again they played well and got very lucky which any team that wants to win has to have some luck on their side. When I got home for lunch it was in the second period and we were losing 1 - 0. I grabbed my new jersey that I wear every game put it on and by the time my butt hit the seat the Canucks scored a goal. Patty said see they were just waiting for you to get home and put it on. The last game same thing I got home in the first period and nothing so Al and I ran and got our jersey's for the start of the second and the Canucks scored and won that game. Tuesday I will have my jersey on before the game gets underway believe me!! Even if I need to call people in to help me get it on!

Well thats all for now its getting closer to midnight. Will write in a few days with the good news....That the Canucks have made it to round 2 of course!!!!

Thanks for the scare Alice!

Well I just had a fun hour here. I was talking to my sister Alice (Terry) on the phone when the line went quiet in the middle of our conversation. My phone showed we were still connected but it was just quiet. I kept saying hello hello for a couple minutes and then when that didn't work I hung up and called her back. The answering machine picked up right away so I figured she was trying to call me back so I hung up and waited a couple minutes. I tried again and the answering machine picked up again so I thought she was either still trying me or was talking to someone else. I waited a few more minutes and called with the same result. I decided to call the operator but all they could do is try the number and they got the answering machine as well. I decided to call Bell and the first operator was useless and gave me a number to call which was the exact number I had used to get her. The next operator(Mark) was very helpfull although we couldn't accomplish anything because he said she was not one of their customers. He asked if there was anything to be concerned about and I said there are some health concerns and she is on medication that could have caused her to black out or something but I didn't want to panic yet. So I hung up and called Rogers and after a few minutes they decided she was not a customer of theirs so they told me to call Bell and get them to do a port eligibility test and they could find out what company she was with. So I called Bell again and after a very short time they said to call the local police in Hamilton if I didn't want to call 911. So I looked up the number and after 3 or 4 questions they patched me into 911 and said better to be safe than sorry. They said they would send an ambulance and so I warned them about the big dog in the house and they said they better send the police too. I told them he was harmless but better safe then sorry. In between calling Bell and Rogers and the police I kept trying Dennis and Mandy without any luck. I even looked up Marianne's last name and found her brothers number but got an answering machine there. I don't have Shawn's number and he only has a cell. I had tried Annette's number but didn't want to panic her but wanted to let her know what was going on. Finally Mandy appeared online and I got her to call me. She said her mom was there and had to go home because her neighbor had ran down because the ambulance was at Terry's. I said to Mandy I'm glad her moms ok but that I was starting to get worried and since I couldn't get anyone else I decided on 911. Mandy said she would give her mom shit because she could have gone to Mandy's to call me. Terry is with Cogeco and all her services had gone down so no internet, no phone, no cable TV. Terry called me after the ambulance left and thanked me and apologized and said she was still shaking from all of this. I was just glad she was ok. A little while later Terry called to tell me the police had just left and she was still shaking. She asked them about the dog and what would they do and the one officer said he would send the other one in first. They said you can usually tell with dogs but if they were not sure they would shoot him ... with bear spray. They chatted with Terry a bit making sure she was ok and then they left and she called me back. When I told her this was going to end up on my blog she said mention that the ambulance guys were real cute and that the police officers were not bad either. Glad your alright Alice!

Just a note for non family members that don't know some history. In 1986 my mother was on the phone with someone when she had a heart attack and passed away. The person talking to her said my mother just stopped talking but she could here the TV on in the background. She tried a few things and then called 911 (if they had it back then)The police went in and found my mom. I have heard of a couple other situations like this so after a while it was in my thoughts but I didn't want to panic.

Only because Terry is a HUGE sports fan I'll mention that the Canucks won game one in their first round best of seven playoff series!! Game 2 is Friday!

Easter at Grandma and Papa G's (the Gwen show)

Happy Easter to everyone!! Today we had all of Patty's kids and Mary and Gwen over to our house for Easter dinner. Everyone got some chocolate and lottery tickets and Gwen got spoiled rotten as usual. She was as cute as a button and was even a good sport and put on her bunny ears we got for her. She is getting so big! She is only 5 and a half months old but she sits up on her own and she will stand on her own if you lean her on something. She loves to stand. The older she gets the better it gets because you can make her smile or laugh and know its just not gas and she recognizes things and people and interacts with them. She knows Grandma so well and will smile and laugh so easy for Patty. Today she wasn't even shy with me or Albert as we both took a turn at getting down to her level to play with her. And boy can she eat!!! She loves her sweet potatoes and rice cereal and then she drinks water from a cup or sippy cup. But then she likes to wash it all down with mothers milk. Getting back to Easter Patty and Ben (mostly Patty) colored some eggs this morning, then we had an easter egg hunt which Albert started early trying to find all the good ones and dispose of them. Next we had a great meal which Patty which Patty had prepared although I did boil and mash the potatoes and Adam and Mary brought carrot cake for desert. It was a good visit without a hitch except for the bleeding welt Adam had on his head from getting shot by Ben and his airsoft gun. Boys will be boys but I told Ben that after today no more firing it in the house. It shoots little plastic pellets and seeing as the basement is so small Adam took a good one between the eyes at close range. They said they were both wearing their safety glasses which I had hollered at them to put on after I heard the guns fire. Well I hope everyone had a nice Easter like we all did today.

Easter at Uncle Jim's and Aunt Irene's

Well today we went to Uncle Jim's and Aunt Irene's for Easter dinner. As usual the food was great and there was a lot of ppl. Every time we go over there we meet new ppl. Today we met (or at least I did) Mike (a Leaf fan) and his wife Patty (Canuck fan) and there sons Brandon and Tyson (my new friend in the last photo). Also there, was David (via internet) his girlfriend Angela and her 3 daughters Lauren, Abby, and Emma. Then there was my buddy Jacob and his parents Eric and Deneen and Grandma Claire. And also Valerie and Lance and their 2 kids Trinity and Mitchell as well as myself Patty, Ben and Albert (Nina from Finland was there via Al's phone)and 3 dogs. Aunty's friend Mo who lives downstairs showed up later and I believe that was everyone.

First off everyone went to the back yard and went on an Easter Egg hunt. All the bigger kids were very nice in letting the younger ones find the easier eggs. All the kids got bags to use to put the eggs they found into for later. Some of the kids did very well! Later we all went upstairs for a turkey dinner which 5 hours later I'm still full. I love my turkey dinners as every one knows! We hung out taking turns chatting with David online and watched some TV before slowly and surly we all started to filter out to our cars and head home to relax after a wonderful meal. Aunty Irene loves having us all over for dinner but also loves it when we all leave so she can relax in piece and quiet.

I just want to say Thank You Aunty Irene and Uncle Jim hope to see you again soon and also it was nice seeing everyone again and nice to meet the new ones hope to see you all again soon!
